## 2018年9月8日托福独立写作题目
Nowadays, in some colleges or universities, professors prohibit students from using electronic devices (such as computers, laptops and smart-phones) that can help them to connect to the internet while the class is going on. Do you think it is a good idea and why? Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.
## 2018年9月8日托福独立写作范文
Handheld devices that can access to the Internet like cell phones, laptops and tablets are getting ubiquitous in many university classrooms. It is vital to ponder that to use internet electronic products can stimulate or interfere with learning. Some professors, who hold the opinion that internet gadgets are more of hindrances than help, have banned the use of these to avoid unanticipated and unpleasant situations. From my perspective, I cannot agree more. My reasons and examples are given below.
First, internet-connected devices may be disruptive to the classroom. As we all know, study environment should be ensured to be conducive to learning, but electronic devices affect learning efficiency in many different ways. Message alerts and phone vibrations interrupt both teaching and learning process. Even college students, though as adults, can be easily distracted by received emails, popping-out advertisement windows and constant notifications from smartphones. Imagine that a professor is explaining a difficult but important biology concept. It is merely impossible for them to concentrate with the same intensity when confronting with numerous information inputs at the same time. In addition, too much screen time hugely reduces eye contact between teachers and students.
What is even more frightening is being hooked on the internet can greatly restrict students’ originality and imagination. The power of independent thinking and the potential of novelty in these young minds might be ruined by “Just-Google-it”. For instance, when asked to design a future house, many students would first look up in Google to see what others’ future houses look like, which simply leads to reluctance to think independently and the loss of initiative when information is at your fingertips. No wonder some professors are complaining that while the internet is connected, a group discussion is more like a collective google-searching than a brainstorming. Therefore, using internet accessible electronics to enhance class learning is a total misconception.
Admittedly, using internet tech-products appropriately does have some advantages, like it is faster to type the notes on the laptop. However, students who write the notes down have a significantly deeper understanding of the materials, which also makes their memory last longer and helps retain more information in the brain.
In brief, if networked devices are allowed while the class is going on, the sad truth is that many college students will use these great tools as an easy way for social media and entertaining, which may interfere with the progress of class and be harmful to face-to-face interactions. Most importantly, too much reliance on technology distracts students’ attention from lectures and produces a decline in critical thinking.
